Virginia Louise (Ebert) Everett (Ginie) Obituary

Trenton, FL - Trenton, Florida --

Virginia "Ginie" Louise (Ebert) Everett, 91, passed away peacefully the morning of January 16, 2026 at Ayers Health & Rehab Center in Trenton, FL, where she had resided since 2023 to be close to her four sons and their families.

Ginie was born on June 1st, 1934, in Winchester, VA, the youngest of five siblings to Emilie (Schmidt) Ebert and Louis V. Ebert Jr. The family relocated several times eventually settling in Green Bay, WI for her father's work. She spent the majority of her childhood there and graduated from East High School then attended Carroll College in SE WI where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Art. After graduation in 1956 she was employed as a technical writer for a defense contractor. In March 1957 she wed Paul L. Everett formerly of Farmer City, IL. Ginie and Paul had four sons over the next six years, but divorced in 1964.

Facing the relative insanity of raising four young boys ages infant to seven alone, Ginie worked as a journalist and determined to supplement modest child support and improve her circumstances for her children. She earned a Master of Arts in Sociology from Wayne State University near Detroit, MI, then worked for Macomb County Community College in several capacities. Equipped with a new credential and seeking an upgrade in employment and environs she took a position in 1975 as a professor of Sociology at Hillsborough County Community College in Tampa, FL.

Consequently, Ginie - now preferring the name 'Lou' to reflect a fresh start - raised her four sons, in part, in Florida. (Paul had remarried and moved his new family to Florida. She graciously accepted Paul's two new sons, Andrew and Scott, into the clan.). Her grown sons settled in various places around the nation, blessing Ginie with twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren over the next several decades.

After retirement from teaching in the 1980's, Ginie devoted herself to volunteering as a suicide crisis counselor and librarian. She also had a penchant for DIY home improvement and repair, styling her entrepreneurial effort Can't Do? Call Lou. She was most proud of her conversion of a disused wood-frame church (formerly Bible Truth Gospel Hall) in Seminole Heights, Tampa, into her own beloved church-house where she lived - and generously opened her doors to others in need - for many years before a second retirement to Rock Lake, WV, in 1998.

Rock Lake was Ginie's happy place. She built her final major DIY project dubbed 'The Swan Song Cabin' there from the ground up. In her simple lakeside home - surrounded by numerous nieces and nephews, countless friends, songbirds, flowers, and serene sunsets - she read avidly, gardened, played games & puzzles, and genuinely loved her "little old lady life."

Per Ginie's wishes, her remains were medically donated to the benefit of others. She is survived by her four sons, David, Jonathan, Matthew, and Mark.

A remembrance service will be held on or around June 1st at the pavilion in Rock Lake, WV. She would welcome you to come and share in the celebration that was her life.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to advance the well-being and education of Native American children, a cause she was especially focused on.
