Thomas Lloyd Teagarden
Thomas Lloyd Teagarden, 97, of Pleasant Valley, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at the Genesis Healthcare Tygart Center in Fairmont. He was born July 23, 1921 in Crucible, PA a son of the late Thomas A. and Bertha Bise Teagarden. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda ONora Teagarden in 2008.
Mr. Teagarden was a member of the Valley Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II in the European Theatre. Tom retired in 1976 with over 34 years of service with the Us Army Corps of Engineers where he served as a lock operator in Marion County. Tom was a 60 plus member of the American Legion post #17 where he served as commander from 1988 thru 1989. He was a life member of the VFW Post #629, the Disabled American Veterans Pack #24, as well as the Military Order of the Cootie. He was also a member of the BPOE Elks Lodge of Fairmont.
Tom enjoyed playing and watching baseball all of his life. In 1952, Tom was a member and the pitcher of the Watson baseball team that won the Marion County Championship. He was asked to try out for the Pittsburgh Pirates farm league team.
He is survived by his step daughter, Marion Horwatt of Natrona Heights, PA, his close friends Jim and Debbie Wilson, as well as step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews including John Journic.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Clyde I. Teagarden, Harold Teagarden, and Isaac Teagarden, his sister, Elma Journic Teagarden, and his step-son, Albert.
Friends and family may call the Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont on Friday, January 11, 2019 from 2PM until 4PM and 6PM until 8PM, as well as on Saturday, January 12, 2019 from 10AM until 11AM. The funeral will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 11 AM with Reverend Jim Zinn officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.
