Roy Lee Meeks Jr. 82, of Barrackville, returned to his heavenly home on Tuesday (Oct. 17, 2017), after a valiant battle with kidney disease.

His love of the Lord sustained him in his struggles and gave us peace that his soul is happy and at rest.

He was born Aug. 5, 1938, the son of the late Roy Lee Meeks Sr. and Helen "Lucille" Watkins.

Roy is survived by his four children from his first marriage, Roy Lee Meeks III, Barrackville, Avis Meeks, Charlotte, North Carolina, Terry Meeks, Barrackville, and Cynthia Darcus, Fairmont; one brother and sister, William Watkins and Carolyn Smith, both of Barrackville; four grandchildren, Christopher Meeks, Fairmont, Tiaa Ferrebe and Sarah Ferrebe (Dakota McCrobie), Morgantown, and Dezmond Meeks, Fairmont; a great-grandson, Alden Joshua Clark, Morgantown; two nephews, Robert Watkins, Cleveland, Ohio, and Damon Jennings, Barrackville; one niece, Tamekia Jennings Williams (Elvis), Barrackville.

In addition to his immediate family, the following were very special people in his life and his heart, Terri Marshall Mansfield, Raeford, North Carolina; Ricci Marshall and Gina Marshall, Clarksburg; Sherri "Baby Love" Marshall, Washington D.C.; Lyla Tomette Payne of Texas; and a host of cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Brittany Meeks.

Family and friends will be received from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Monday at the Mount Zion Baptist Church, 135 Maple Ave., Fairmont. A celebration of Roy's life will follow with Pastor Mark Staples officiating and Pastor Frank Hairston, eulogist. Full military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Navy and the Marion County Veterans Council. A private internment will take place at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton at a later date.
