Odbert R. "BertSonny" Shumaker Obituary

Odbert R. "Bert/Sonny" Shumaker, 80, of Route 2, Grafton, passed away Sunday (March 20, 2011) at the Rosewood Health Care Center in Grafton. He was born June 16, 1930, in Taylor County, a son of the late Arley Ray and Myrtle B. (Wilmoth) Shumaker. Mr. Shumaker served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired laborer with the B&O and CSX Railroad and also worked for Builder's Service & Supply Co. in Grafton. He enjoyed his family, hunting and fishing. He was Methodist by faith. He is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Phoebe J. (Miller) Shumaker; one son, Dennis R. Shumaker and wife Terry of Grafton; one daughter, Alesha Jane Moore and husband Paul, also of Grafton; three grandchildren, Jennifer Shumaker of Grafton, Wyatt Moore and wife Teresa of Bridgeport, and Leslee Bray of Grafton; three great-grandchildren, Nicholas Shumaker, Karen Bray and Cody Bray; one brother, Jerry Shumaker of Texas; four sisters, Anna "Tootsie" Beavers, Martha Shroyer, Marie Shumaker and Dora Irvine, all of Grafton; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Shelly A. Shumaker Setler; two sisters, Katherine Dale and Linda Springs; and one brother, Warden Shumaker. The family will receive friends from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Woodsdale Memorial Park Cemetery in Grafton. Military graveside services will be conducted by the VFW Memorial City Post 3081 of Grafton, Taylor County Post 12 American Legion, D.A.V. Chapter 24 of Grafton and their auxiliaries, and the West Virginia Army National Guard of Kingwood.
