Michele Ann Plutro Obituary

Michele Ann Plutro, 71, of Fairmont, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2024 after a long battle with breast cancer and suffering a stroke in November 2023.

She was born on April 1, 1952 to John and Ida Plutro. Michele was an accomplished seamstress at a very early age and pursued this, where she earned a Bachelors Degree of Arts in Home Economics from Fairmont State College, a Masters Degree in Childhood Development from WVU, as well as her Doctorate Degree from WVU. She attended Barnes School and Fairmont Senior High School.

Michele was employed briefly by Marion County Board of Education, where she taught Home Economics at Monongah High School. She realized that a younger age of children was where she could be the most helpful , and soon went to work with North Central West Virginia Head Start Program. After many years working in West Virginia, she was promoted and encouraged to move to Washington, D.C. to work on a national level within the U.S. Government with the Head Start Program. With a career spanning from Fairmont to Washington, D.C. for over 30 years, she retired back to her roots in Fairmont to be with her family.

Michele is survived by her father, John K. Plutro; a sister, Denise Amendolea Plutro; a niece, Nicola Amendolea, who was the light of her life; and nephews, Isaiah Amendola and Noah Waites. Michele was often heard to say "How are my boys" whom she loved very much; and Nicola's fiancé, Lambert Horton. Also surviving are uncles, Robert Plutro and Nick Mezzanotte, Jr. She leaves behind many cousins and friends.

Michele was preceded in death by her mother, Ida Plutro; a niece, D'Andrea Amendolea; her grandparents, Nick and Minnie Mezzanotte and Mike and Eva Plutro; an aunt, Antoinette Mezzanotte Adams; and an uncle, Pat Mezzanotte.

Michele loved spending time and dodding over her Mom and Dad and whenever possible, with Nicola and her sons. Always packing a snack bag whenever they were going on trips. Michele will be sadly missed because there was never a quiet moment in the house, she loved talking.

The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Avenue in Fairmont, on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Vigil rites will be performed at the funeral home on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. The Catholic Funeral Liturgy will be on Thursday, April 4, 2024 will be at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 1660 Mary Lou Retton Drive in Fairmont, with Father Romeo Bacalso as Celebrant.
