Fairmont, WV - Michael Peter Bobic, 62, of Fairmont, passed away on January 15, 2026 at West Virginia University Hospital. He was born March 22, 1963 in Binghamton, NY a son of the late Robert Joseph and Jane Blackmore Perry Bobic. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Jennifer L. Knotts Bobic.
Michael was a professor of political science for over 30 years. He served at several institutions throughout his career including, Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, GA, West Virginia Wesleyan College, Glenville State, Alderson Broaddus and most recently Liberty University. He was a graduate of Appalachian Bible College, as well as Berea College in Kentucky, and then obtained his masters and doctorate from the University of Tennessee. Michael was a member of the Galilean Baptist Church in White Hall where he was a past deacon and also taught adult Sunday school classes.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brother, Stephen Martin Bobic of Knoxville, TN, his sister, Katherine Jean Parton of Kingsport, TN, his in-laws, James N. and Margaret A. Hunter Knotts of Fairmont, his sisters-in-law, Melissa A. Knotts of Fairmont, Mary K. and her husband Richard Windon of Fairmont, and Amy S. and her husband Mark Lanham of Philippi, WV, and his honorary children, Carese and her husband Nathan Niezgoda of Fairmont and their daughter Aurora.
In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Tim Parton.
The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont. In accordance with his wishes, cremation services will take place. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at 11A.M. at the Galilean Baptist Church, 79 Jaynes Drive, Fairmont, WV 26554.
