Fairmont, West Virginia - Mary Jacqueline Nussear, 92, of Fairmont, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026, at her residence.
Mary was born to Elizabeth "Betty" Johnson Gerken and Paul Edgar Gerken. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Joanne Gerken, Paul "Sonny" Gerken, and James Gerken.
She is survived by her children, Paulette Klingensmith and her spouse Scott, Paul "Mark" Williamson and his spouse Becky, and Brian Williamson and his companion Greta, and was preceded in death by her daughter, Martha "Renee" Williamson. Mary is also survived by her stepdaughter, Stephanie Back and her spouse Chuck, the daughter of her beloved late husband John G Nussear.
Mary graduated from Fairmont Senior High School in 1951. She began her professional career in New Jersey, working for Westinghouse from 1965 to 1967, before joining Lockheed Martin. She started as an "Electronics B" soldering printed circuit boards. During the course of 22 years of employment she worked up in the company and into management becoming one of the first female supervisors. During her tenure she was involved in top secret projects which included the Space Shuttle and the Stealth Bomber programs. Mary retired in 1989 then continued to be a consultant for Sanders in the training program on the Stealth Bomber.
Mary, affectionately known as "Boopie,". a nickname given to her by her grandfather at a very young age stating that she resembled the cartoon character Betty Boop, Mary carried that name throughout her life. Mary was seldom called by her birth name it was always "Grandma Boopie" or "Hey Boop" and she would answer without hesitation.
Mary enjoyed collecting Capodimonte Porcelain, Murano Clowns, and Waterford Crystal. She also enjoyed purchasing and extensively renovating homes in the Fairmont area where she would do most of the renovations herself, transforming each exactly to her vision. She took great pride in her homes and kept them immaculate. In her later years she cherished quiet mornings reading the paper and doing the crossword puzzles with late husband John.
Mary is survived by several grandchildren, including Scott, Marissa, Jason, Colby, Briana, Lenae, Brian, Brandon, Dustin and a step granddaughter Krista. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Chris and Danielle. She is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild Augustus "Gus."
The family would like to thank her caregiver, Belinda, for her devoted care over the several years.
