Margaret M. DeBellis Arcure Obituary

Fairmont, WV - Margaret Mary DeBellis Arcure, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on October 9, 2025. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Sophia DeBellis of Pennsylvania Avenue, and the devoted mother of Nicholas Arcure II of Franklin, WV, and Matthew Arcure of Morgantown, WV.

Margaret, affectionately known as Maggie or Grandma Mags, found lifelong friendship and purpose in her sorority, Phi Mu Fraternity, during her time at Fairmont State College, where she served as sorority president. Her commitment to her sisters endured long after graduation—she faithfully sent monthly emails with updates on Phi Mu events and news and was a regular at monthly lunches and annual reunions. Her presence will be deeply missed by her Phi Mu family.

After earning her degree in 1972, Maggie dedicated 32 years to teaching—first at East Park, and later at East Fairmont Junior High, where she concluded her career. In retirement, she remained active in the education community through retired teachers' groups and finally had time to indulge her love of sports. Fall weekends were her favorite—she could be found cheering on college football Saturdays and NFL Sundays with enthusiasm.

Maggie cherished her family above all. She is survived by her son Nicholas Arcure II and his children, Isabella and Kolton Arcure, and her son Matthew Arcure, his wife Carmen Pennington, and their children Donovan Dalton and Lucca Arcure. She also leaves behind her sister Eileen Akers of Charlottesville, VA; brothers Joseph DeBellis and Robert DeBellis, wife Denise of Fairmont; and sister-in-law Teresa DeBellis of Wilmington, NC.

Margaret was a devoted aunt who cherished her nieces and nephew, and she held a deep affection for her beloved cousins, with whom she shared lifelong bonds and treasured memories. Throughout her life, she was also blessed with close friendships that brought her joy and comfort - each one holding a special place in her heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Lawrence DeBellis.

In accordance with her wishes, Margaret's body has been cremated. No services will be held at this time.

Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
