Fairmont, WV - Madaline "Miggie" Irene DeVito Walsh, 101 ½, passed away on Saturday August 2, 2025 at the Fitzwater's Gracious Living Home Care in Fairmont. She was born January 5, 1924 in Fairmont, WV a daughter of the late Matthew and Doris Serge DeVito. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth H. Walsh.
Miggie was a graduate of East Fairmont High School and attended Nursing School prior to her marriage. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Fairmont. She was a homemaker and devoted mother. When her children were out of the house she began working for Jones Department Store in Fairmont in the receiving department for several years, until she became a grandmother and started taking care of her grandson, Brian.
Miggie enjoyed bowling throughout her life and belonged to many leagues over the years which included bowling at the Eastland Lanes, Valley Lanes, and Fairmont Bowling Center. She enjoyed crocheting and was an excellent seamstress, making most of her daughter's clothes while growing up. She and her family had a huge family garden which she enjoyed being a part of over the years. She loved planting her flowers around her home. She loved being with family, cooking for her extended family, and especially playing penny anti poker on family game nights. Miggie had three beloved silky terriers throughout her life whom she treated like her children.
Miggie is survived by her daughter, Nancy and her husband Jerry Wood of Fairmont, her daughter-in-law, JoAnn Walsh of Goose Creek, S.C., her grandchildren: Brian Wood, M.D. of Morgantown, Jennifer and her husband John Thorsten of Goose Creek S.C., Jimmy and his wife Barbara Walsh of Goose Creek, S.C, and Jessica and her husband Matt Wofford of Taylors, S.C. She is also survived by her six great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law, Mary Jo DeVito, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Miggie was preceded in death by her son, James M. Walsh, a great-grandson, Michael Thorsten, and her siblings: Paul DeVito and his wife Stella, Julie Kabulski and her husband Tommy, Eugene DeVito and his wife Julia, and Eddy DeVito.
The family would like to thank Don Fitzwater, Mike Morris, and David Yoho for the special love and care they provided Miggie over the last several years.
The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont. In keeping with her wishes, cremation services will be held.
