Lloyd L Shriver Obituary

Pruntytown, WV - Lloyd L Shriver, 84, of Pruntytown, WV passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on November 27, 1940, as the only child of the late Lloyd L Shriver, Sr and Lelia Withers Shriver of Grafton, WV. In his younger years, many may have known him as "Tator" and then later in life he felt blessed and honored to get to the age he was, and to be known as "Old Man Shriver".

On June 27, 1964, Lloyd married his wife, Anna Jane Kinsey Shriver of Simpson, WV. Lloyd was a member of the Pruntytown United Methodist Church, and was currently attending the Union Baptist Church in Simpson, WV, the church where his wife grew up and they were married.

Lloyd's childhood was spent around cars and community as his father's business then was owning Shriver Motors, the Ford garage in Grafton, WV. He learned to work on cars and turn wrenches which led to his studies later in life. His mother who passed away when Lloyd was 10, helped with the family business by keeping the company books and traveling Taylor County teaching Penmanship. He was known for driving nothing but a Ford, a tradition he kept faithfully all his life.

Lloyd graduated from Grafton High School in 1958 as the salutatorian of his class, he then furthered his education with a degree from WVU in Mechanical Engineering. Upon graduating college, he served as a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army 59th Artillery stationed in Norfolk, VA. After his time in the service, he moved back to Pruntytown and raised his family and built his career of 30 years as a Mechanical Engineer at Westinghouse Lighting in Fairmont, WV (later known as North American Phillips Lighting).

Beyond his professional life, Lloyd was devoted to his wife, Anna Jane Kinsey Shriver of 61 years and built a home full of love and stories. Lloyd was the proud father to Dave Shriver(wife Maria) and June Griffith(husband Chad). He leaves behind his grandchildren, Hannah, Todd(wife Makenna), Haylee Griffith, Kinsey and Aaron Shriver, and many dear nieces and nephews. His family and friends will remember him for his stories of light bulb manufacturing, tales of his youth, and the life he shared with Anna Jane.

Lloyd grew up to strong ties to the community and served on various committees in Taylor County, WV. In early 1980s, Lloyd was the Little League President and an integral part of building the Little League field at Anna Jarvis Elementary School in Grafton, WV. He enjoyed playing golf, playing cards, watching game shows on TV, and was an avid billiard player. He enjoyed watching most sporting events, especially when children or grandchildren were playing.

As a member of the WV Cattlemen's Association, he spent his retirement years, farming with his son Dave Shriver of Shriver Farms. He took great pleasure in making hay in the summertime and was always trying to better "engineer" the work in the hayfield.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 28, 2025, from 1pm to 5pm at Bartlett's Funeral Home in Grafton WV. Visitation will also be on Monday, September 29, 2025, from 10am to 12:00 pm with the Funeral services beginning at noon and officiated by friend and lifelong neighbor, Garry Whitescarver. He will be laid to rest at the National Cemetery in Pruntytown, WV where military honors will be accorded by the Taylor County and WV Army Honor Guard immediately following the funeral service.

The family wishes to thank all for their support and compassion during this time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Union Baptist Church in Simpson, WV or to the Simpson Cemetery Inc Fund, 2657 Simpson Road, Flemington, WV 26347.
