Leonard D West Obituary

Fairmont, WV - Leonard D. West, 92, of Fairmont passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Fairmont Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Fairmont. He was born in Monongalia County on April 17, 1933, the son of the late Agnes West.


He attended Morgantown High School. He first drove a coal truck for CD Mining at the age of 16. He then worked in the maintenance department at Sterling Faucett for 11 years and then retired with 30 years of service as a coal miner at Loveridge Coal Mine. He was a proud member of the United Mine Workers Association and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and camping at Elkins and Smoke Hole with his sister-in-law Loretta Starn and her husband Donald.


He is survived by his son Leonard "Lenny" West of Fairmont; his grandson Samuel Eugene West and his wife Jessica; his great grandchildren Avery West and Chloe West and his sister-in-law Loretta Starn.


Friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home on Monday, November 03, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Tuesday, November 04, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A service will be held at the funeral on Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Jim Zinn officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Fairmont.
