Leo Brown, 87, of Fairmont, went home to be with the Lord Wed., Sept. 26, 2018 at home. He was born March 29, 1931 in Birmingham, Alabama, the son of the late Selina Mae Stanley Brown and James Coleman Brown, Sr.
He was a graduate of Dunbar High School and was employed by the Fairmont Hotel. He enlisted in the US Army and served in the Korean War. He and his first wife, Lucille moved to Dayton, Ohio where they lived for 20 years and where he was employed by the City of Dayton and also the automobile manufacturing industry.
Leo ran a successful Amway distributorship for many years in Marion County. He loved many sports including his favorite, boxing, where he was a Golden Gloves Champion in Marion County. He also boxed in the Army where he earned the nickname "Rocky".
Survivors include one son, Ronald Brown, Highland, California; two daughters, Charlene Belton, Fairmont and Shantan Akpan, Frederick, Maryland; four step-sons and a step-daughter Emmanuel Belton, Fairmont, Alfred, Larry and Alagrea Belton all of Dayton, Ohio and Irvin Belton, Atlanta, Georgia; 64 grandchildren, 92 great grandchildren; several loving nieces and nephews including his favorite nieces, JoAnne and Talitha Clay both of Fairmont.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 21 years, Lucille Steptoe Brown; one son Spencer Brown; and his second wife of 20 years Betty Lou Belton; three brothers, James Brown, Jr., Tommy Brown and Wilbert Brown; one step-daughter, Yvette Belton and one step-son Antonio Brown.
Friends may call at the Morning Star Baptist Church Thurs. Oct. 11, 2018 from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held at the church Fri. at 12:00noon, Pastor Wesley Dobbs officiating with Pastor Robert Clay, eulogist. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. The JG Lampkin Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
