Laura Cain (Lee) Obituary

Fairmont, West Virginia - Laura Lee Cain, 98, of Fairmont, WV, passed away peacefully on November 7th, 2025, surrounded by love. Laura was born in Fairmont, WV, on September 30, 1927, a daughter of the late Ollie and Edna Donehew. She graduated from West Fairmont High School in 1945 (which her East Sider family loved to tease her about). She then attended Fairmont State College, where she was a member of Gamma Kai Kai. She was a Title I reading specialist and library assistant at many schools over the years including State Street School, East Park Elementary, and East Dale Elementary. In 1948, Laura married the love of her life, Archie Cain, Jr. They went on to adopt two wonderful children, who, along with their grandchild and great-grandchild, were the best parts of their lives. She was loved by all that knew her, but most of all by her family. Laura had many hobbies, among which were being an avid reader, cross-stitcher/seamstress, and card shark. She was a member of many different organizations over the years, some of which included: The Women's Club, The Marion County Historical Society, DAR, The Women's Auxiliary Club, The Mary Priscilla Group, and the Rock Lake Club. She was a member of Gateway United Methodist Church. Other than her parents, Laura was preceded in death by her loving husband, Archie Cain, Jr., a sister, Martha Cline, a brother, Walter Donehew, Brothers-in-law Bill and Bob Cain, Sisters-in-law, Florence Robinson, Doris Lee Cain, and Annalee Cain, and a niece Charlene Cain. She is survived by one son, Richard "Rick" Cain (Alana Dennison), a daughter Penny Cain Parrish, granddaughter Jennifer Parrish (Zane McCoy), great-granddaughter, Lilyana McCoy, nephew Robert Cain, nieces Pam Robinson, Cindy Leonard (Mike), Jenny Costello (Pat), and many beloved great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, Laura asked that donations be made to the charity of your choice. The family has entrusted the arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont. Friends will be received on Thursday, November 13, 2025 from 3 pm until 8pm. A private service of committal will be held for the family in the West Virginia National Cemetery at a later date with Reverend Nici Masters officiating. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.fordfuneralhomes.com.
