Larry Mazza Obituary

Deerfield Beach, FL - Larry Mazza, 76, passed away unexpectedly on October 1st, leaving behind the two most precious things in his life, his son, Rocky, and his granddaughter, Adrianna. Also his sister, and best friend, Linda Shelosky; his nieces, Stephany Blickenstaff and Andrea Shelosky; his nephews, Rick Mazza II, Shane Mazza and his wife, and Chance Mazza and his wife; his sister-in-law, Cheryl Mazza; and all his special great nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy and Jennie Mazza; his brother, Rickey; and his brother-in-law, Bernie.

He was a Christian and Catholic by faith. He was an avid golfer, loved playing cards, posting funny and political things on Facebook, but most of all, spending priceless and precious time with his granddaughter. He loved Jerry West, the "old" Steel Curtain, and the 1960's New York Yankees.

Larry was a proud 1967 graduate of East Fairmont High School. He was a great athlete. In his grade school days, he was a dominating pitcher in little league and a versatile quarterback on the East Side Pop Warner team. He played against Nick Saban and was always so proud to recall that day. In high school, he was among the very top athletes in the county. There were 8 high schools back then. He won many awards. He was a walk on at WVU to play on the freshman team, but decided later to continue education at Fairmont State.

After the death of his father, he took over Mazza's in 1973. It was then known for great hot dogs and fresh cut fries; however, Larry was more well known for his famous "pizza bun!" He also ran the Super Bowl near the college, and Mazza's Sports Bar.

Through the doors of his businesses walked many kids and friends. He was a mentor to many of them and a pillar of support for East Side. It is difficult to put into words the loss and impact of his death for his grieving family and the East Side community.

The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Avenue in Fairmont, on Sunday, October 12, 2025 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and on Monday, October 13, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with vigil rites performed at 7:00 p.m. The Catholic Funeral Liturgy will be at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 406 Alta Vista Avenue in Fairmont, on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Patsy Iaquinta as celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
