Kenneth Joseph Mazure Obituary
Kenneth Joseph Mazure, 76, of Grant Town, passed away Sunday night, January 12 at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport after valiantly battling cancer for two years. He was born in Fairmont General Hospital on May 1, 1948, a son of the late Mike Mazure and Anne Smiljanic Mazure and was a lifelong resident of Grant Town. He was also preceded in death by his older brother, Stephen Michael Mazure, his father-in-law George Salina and his mother-in-law Juanita Cummings Salina.
Kenny is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sharon Lea (Salina) Mazure, daughter, Leigh Anne Mazure of Forrest Hills, New York, and son David Kenneth Mazure of Grant Town. Extended family includes sister-in-law Carroll Mazure of Wheeling, brother-in-law Jim Salina and sister-in-law Mary Salina of Grant Town, nephews Mike Mazure and Michael Salina, nieces Gina Mazure and Andrea Fleming, as well as two great nephews and a great niece.
Ken was a 1966 graduate of Fairview High School, where he served in student government and excelled in football and basketball. He worked for 18 years in the supply yard of the Eastern Associated Coal Corporation mine in Grant Town until its closure in 1985. He then worked in construction of the Grant Town Power Plant and late retired there as a mechanic.
Ken loved attending WVU Mountaineer football games, watching a variety of feathered friends enjoy the bird feeders in his trees, and, along with his wife, Sharon, planning and cultivating their home flower gardens, and canning homemade tomato salsa. His favorite season was Christmas and along with that, the movie "A Christmas Story." He owned replicas of the decoder pin, the Red Rider BB gun, and of course, the leg lamp. He will be remembered as a hard worker, an honest person, a loyal friend, and most of all, a loving husband and father. In addition, he leaves behind many friends and neighbors who will also miss him dearly.
The immediate family is honoring his request not to hold a public memorial service. Cremation services have been entrusted to Domico Funeral Home in Fairmont. Ken was always concerned for the wellbeing of dogs and cats, so friends may want to consider making a small donation in his memory to the Marion County Humane Society.
