Julian Pitman Obituary

Family Patriarch, Julian Asher Pitman, 98, of Fairmont, passed away on October 8, 2022.Julian, better known as Dad, Pawpaw, or Pawpaw Julian, was born on July 30, 1924, son of Walter and Ina (Michael) Pitman of Four States.

Julian attended Monongah High School. He served with Company B, 125 th AAA Gun Battery during WW ll, serving in Germany, France, and Belgium, including the Battle of the Bulge. Returning home, Julian married high school sweetheart Angelina (Nenie) Maset. He began working in the coal mines for Consol and then Bethlehem Steel at Idamay, Barrackville and Barbour County Mine as Prep Plant Superintendent. After retirement he partnered with brother-in-law Buck Blagg and Edgar Parks to form Superior Modular Homes, working construction until his final retirement. There was nothing Dad couldn't build or repair, with his special interest being auto repair and restoration. He was very proud of the 1930 Model A he restored and maintained.

Julian is pre-deceased by his parents, Walter and Ina Pitman; wife Angelina after 63 years of marriage; son Rodney in 2018; brother Virgil Pitman (KIA, WW II, Germany} sisters Dorothy Pitman Kocan; Velma Pitman Hartley and Lexie Pitman Parks. Left to honor his memory is sister and brother-in-law Joan and A.E. "Buck" Blagg; daughter-in-law Sharon Davis Pitman; sons Julian A. "Dusty" (Darlene) and Van (Kathy). Pawpaw is survived by grandchildren Krista Bryant (Calvin), Becky Hamilton (Scott), Angela Pitman, James Pitman (Ashley); John Pitman (Sandra); Jared Pitman and Tessla McGraw (Andrew). Pawpaw Julian is survived by Great-Grandchildren Jake, Emily and Cole Pitman; Graham Bryant; Morgan and Shelby Hamilton and Grayson Asher McGraw; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews. Special appreciation for their on-going friendship with Dad as he became older goes to long-time friend Arnold & Jean Efaw and nephew Monty Burdoff. The family also appreciates the support provided by WVU UHC Hospice Staff, especially Trish and Tessa.

As Dad served in WW II, his brother Virgil, brother-in-law Louie Maset and cousin Dallas Hawkins were all Killed-in-Action during WW II, we have Great Appreciation for our military! Therefore, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Julian's memory to Wreaths Across America, an organization that ensures deceased veterans are honored by placing wreaths at their gravesites at Christmas. Donations may be sent locally to: Rotary Club of Grafton, c/o Sharon Bolyard, 524 Gawthrop Road, Grafton, WV 26354. On the memo line please make note that the donation is for Wreaths in Memory of Pitman.
