John K. Plutro Obituary

Fairmont, WV - John K. Plutro 96, of Fairmont passed away Tuesday evening October 7, 2025 at Fairmont Medical Center. He was born on December 1, 1928 in Belington, WV son of the late Eva Coontz Plutro and Michelo Pollutro "Mike Plutro" who had immigrated from Frozolone Italy and settled in Fairmont, then moved to Belington and eventually back to Fairmont with his wife Eva.

John was a jack of all trades and he had mastered many to perfection. John worked at his father's auto body paint shop and at a young age learned how to mix paint, spray the vehicle, where he became a detailed painter free handed which included stripes on vehicles using a paint pen and a small wheel and a steady hand.

After meeting the love of his life, Ida Mezzanotte they were married on August 23, 1948. Still painting cars John knew he needed a more steady income, so he began his career with the railroad in 1957 for B&O/C&O, Chessie System and then CSX Railroad, until he retired with 39 years of service. He never missed a day of work and never called off work and kept a ledger every day.

He was a very well read man, volumes of books, and mastering his homemade Root Beer. He loved mowing grass and kept his lawn looking like a Masters golf course. He always had a clean care, winter and summer.

John and Ida raised a family in Bellview where they remained until building their dream home in Watson.

John is survived by his daughter Denise Plutro, granddaughter Nicola Amendola and her boys Isaiah Amendola and Noah Waites and her fiance Lambert Horton. He is also surivived by his brother Robert Plutro, and brother-in-law Nick Mezzanotte, Jr. and wife Helen Summers Mezzanotte, sister-in-law Virginia Cameon Mezzanotte. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife Ida Mezzanotte Plutro, his oldest daughter Michele Plutro and his granddaughter D'Andrea Amendolea, one brother Frank "Dicky" Plutro. He is also preceded in death by his in-laws Nick and Minnie D'omico Mezzanotte, brother-n-law Pat Mezzanotte, sister-in-law Antoinette (Harry) Adams, and sister-in-law Susan Plutro.

John was an avid walker on Fairmont Avenue for 25 years or more and reconnected with his friends and family waving to everyone. He also found the best in every person he met or knew.

One thing John's family and friends knew about him, he was Italian, Democrat, a devout Catholic and a Union man.

The family would like to thank his caregivers at home; Lisa Merrifield, Deb Younger and Tracy Gregory and the Staff at Fairmont Medical Center.

Thank you to his great neighbors Stacey and Seth Broadhurst and family, Clarissa & Michael Nicholson and family, Mark and Mary Perella and Charlie Weaver.

Friends will be received at Ross Funeral Home 801 Fairmont Avenue Fairmont on Thursday October 9th from 2-7:00 p.m. The Catholic Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, October 10, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Fr.
