JoAnn Cosco Obituary

Hurricane, WV - JoAnn (Chickrell) Cosco of Hurricane, WV, formerly of Fairmont, WV, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025 at Paramount Senior Living in Ona WV, after a long and valiant battle with multiple illnesses, including cancer. She was born December 22, 1943 to Nick and Mary (Besedich) Chickrell of Farmington, WV.

The proud daughter of a West Virginia coal miner, JoAnn will lovingly be remembered for her kindness, hospitality and generosity to everyone she met. She was a loving mother and wife who took pride in her family, her home and her cooking. She was a staunch supporter of the WVU Mountaineer basketball team, the East Fairmont Busy Bee Band and was a proud member of the Farmington High Farmers, Class of '61 - the greatest class ever!

She loved listening to music, watching her favorite basketball teams and always had the cooking channel on TV. Of course, the thing she loved the most was spending time with family and planning meals for every holiday and visit.

She is survived by her loving husband, John Carl Cosco, sons Scott (Kathy) Cosco of Hurricane, WV and Jason (Stephanie) Cosco of Albany, NY, brother Tom (Mary Jo) Chickrell of Farmington, grandchildren Sadie and Dominick Cosco, both of Huntington, WV and nieces, nephews, cousins and god-children.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her in-laws Sam and Della Cosco and Alan and Mary Keeney.

Friends and family will be received at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church 329 Maryland Avenue Fairmont on Thursday December 18th from 9 - 11:00 a.m. The Catholic Funeral Liturgy will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Fr. Kishore Varaparla, H.G.N. as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Laura R. Smith Memorial Endowed Scholarship, which supports East Fairmont High School Busy Bee Band graduates who plan to minor in musical arts at Fairmont State University. Donations may be made online at FSUFoundation.org; please designate your gift to the Laura R. Smith Memorial Endowed Scholarship and note that it is made in honor of JoAnn Cosco.

Arrangements are under the care of Ross Funeral Home 801 Fairmont Avenue Fairmont. Condolences sent to www.rossfh.com.
