Gertrude Virginia Gentile (Gertrude) Obituary

Gertrude Virginia Boggs Hamilton Gentile, 104, of Star City, passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2019, at her residence with her family by her side. She was born in Braxton County, on September 12, 1915, the daughter of the late Camden Mollohan Boggs and Elizabeth Rebecca Watson.


Gertrude is survived by her children, Thelma Mason, James Hamilton and wife, Naomi, and Brenice Frere and husband, Emile; daughter-in-law, Phoebe Hamilton; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 26 great great grandchildren; and one great great great grandchild.


In addition to her parents, Gertrude was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold Hamilton; her second husband, John Gentile; son, Harold Hamilton, Jr.; grandsons, Frank Hamilton and Michael J. Hamilton; son-in-law, Robert Mason; brothers, Clyde Boggs, Richard Boggs and Harry Boggs; and sisters Stella Gatian and Loretta Rae Wolfe.


Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown, on Sunday, October 27, 2019, from 1-5 p.m. The evening visitation will conclude with a Scriptural Wake Service at 4:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday, October 28, 2019, at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 3334 B University Avenue from 10 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Rev. John V. DiBacco, Jr., as Celebrant. Entombment will follow at St. Mary's Peace Garden Mausoleum.


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gertrude's honor to Morgantown Hospital, 3596 Collins Ferry Road, Morgantown, WV 26505.
