Fairmont, WV - Mrs. Frances Ann (Pachuta) Zappacosta, 82, passed away in her home with her daughters by her side on February 3, 2025. She was born on June 25, 1943 in Fairmont to the late Frank and Kathleen (Christie) Pachuta. She was preceded in death by her husband William J. Zappacosta whom she married on August 20, 1966.

She graduated from Fairmont Senior High School in 1961, Fairmont State College in 1965 with a Bachelor of Arts and Education, and later completed her Masters Degree at West Virginia University. She worked in many schools in West Virginia before ending her career as a second grade teacher at White Hall Elementary School. She loved children and especially teaching them to read.

She was a proud member of Central Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. She loved traveling, reading the Bible, cooking, baking, shopping, ceramics, collecting Hummels, and talking on the phone with her sister Vivian, cousin Ruth Ann, and friend Judy. During her lifetime, she loved animals including her duck Donald, dog Dinky, and her cats Tasha, Little Kitty, and Holly. Most of all she loved being a mom and taking care of her family.

Frances is survived by her daughters Anne Marie Zappacosta, M.D. of Barboursville and Christie Lee Zappacosta, CPA (Eugene Saunders) of Fairmont, step-granddaughter, Ciana Saunders of Fairmont, niece Melissa Daye, nephew Mark Daye (Amy) of Ohio, and her Aunt Jane (Christie) Riggs who was like a sister to her. She recently lost her sister Vivian Leigh (Pachuta) Daye of Dayton, Oh.

The family would like to give a special thank you to her cousins Ruth Ann Dalton and David & Debbie Sleeth for their love and support.

Friends and family may visit the Ross Funeral Home at 801 Fairmont Avenue in Fairmont, WV on Sunday, February 8, 2026 from 12-2 p.m. with a service at 2 p.m. by Pastor Charlie Chochran of Central Christian Church.
