Edward Warren Cale
Edward Warren Cale, 91, passed away peacefully in the home of his daughter on November 30, 2019, in New Market, Virginia. He had been under the care of hospice for four days.
Edward was the son of the late Gilbert E. and Mildred Henderson Cale. He was born and raised in Fairmont, WV. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife, Betty Shelton Cale; brother, James R. Cale; grandson, Luke Teter; and great-grandson, Armand Teter. He is survived by a son, John Edward Cale of Morgantown, WV, and daughter Susan and her husband, Gary Teter of New Market, VA; grandsons, Jacob Teter and Jeremy Teter; granddaughter, Hannah Teter Shepard and husband, Adam Shepard; great-grandchildren, Elijah Teter, Remy Shepard, and Thisbe Shepard.
Ed and his wife Betty lived in Fairmont until eight years ago when they moved to Virginia. Ed was a graduate of Fairmont Senior High School where he played varsity basketball and met his sweetheart, Betty and married her a year after high school. He was employed by Sharon Steel from 1947 until its closure in 1979 where he did electrical work. He then joined the maintenance department at Fairmont State University and worked there until he retired. He and Betty were big basketball fans both of Fairmont State and West Virginia University and enjoyed attending many games. Ed was known as a hard worker and worked a second job for years with Springer Vending. His favorite pastime was work-working and was quite accomplished in making wooden toys, picture frames, shelves, toy boxes, and decorative items. Many people have been blessed to receive the pieces he made. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren had the pleasure of enjoying his handiwork, especially rocking horses and toys. His mailbox stamp holders can be found in many homes. It was fun for him to give these stamp holders to his family and friends. His memory will live on through these cherished items.
As a family, we are thankful for a wonderful Thanksgiving Day. Ed, lovingly called Pap by his family, visited with his beloved grandchildren and the joy of his life, his great- grands.
He was a former member of the Baptist Temple of Fairmont and served as a Trustee for several years.
He will be greatly missed by those who loved him. A memorial service is being planned for the spring of 2020 in Fairmont, WV.
