Shinnston, West Virginia - Donald W. Bates, 88, of Shinnston, WV passed away on January 29, 2026. Donald was born on November 1, 1937 in Clarksburg, WV, a son of the late Edward Bates and Pearl Nuzum Bates. He was also preceded in death by his wife Eunice Bates, a sister; Carolyn Sue Bates and a brother; Fay Bates.
Donald is survived by one brother; Harold D. Bates of Shinnston and one sister; Ruth Hill.
Donald was employed by the Harrison County Power Plant and he was a member of the Union Mission Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed attending church, shopping, and spending time with his friends and family.
Friends and family will be received at Harmer Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 from 3:00 PM- 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Chad Weaver officiating. Interment will follow at Shinnston Memorial Cemetery.
