Delbert Hugh Mahaffey, 90, of Rivesville, West Virginia passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2025. Delbert was born on December 10, 1934, the son of the late Roy E. and Hazel (Reckart) Mahaffey.
Delbert was a 1953 graduate of East Fairmont High School. In his youth he was a caddy at White Day golf course and while serving in the Army he was a championship horseshoe pitcher. He started at Mon Power as a lineman and retired as a Foreman. As an electrician he was able to help people by restoring their power during outages, this brought him much joy. Delbert was a people person, always making friends wherever he went. He enjoyed his Friday night jam sessions in Westover where he played the dulcimer, mandolin, and guitar. Delbert had a true servant's heart always serving others by cutting grass, delivering meals with meals on wheels and just by being a good neighbor. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing, and had a talent for woodworking, tying fly fishing lures and was an organic gardener before it was trendy. Delbert was a member and deacon of the Baptist Temple in Fairmont and member of the Rock Forge Presbyterian Church in Morgantown.
Left to cherish his memory was his wife of 8 years, Mary Jo (Wilson) Mahaffey, son: Tim and his wife Joy Mahaffey, daughters: Cheryl Blankenship, LaDonna Mahaffey, Lura and her husband Steve Opas and Monica her husband Kevin Gonzalez; grandchildren: Michael McCuskey, Scotty McCuskey, Abigail Blankenship, Stephanie Mahaffey, Taylor Foley and Shelby Foley, four great grandchildren, many beloved nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Delbert was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Ruth (Rogers) Mahaffey, son in law Bruce Blankenship, siblings: Roy Mahaffey, Jr, Lee Mahaffey, Kathleen "Kate" Bodgan and Wilda "Woody" Prahl.
Family and friends can gather together at Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, on Sunday, April 13, 2025, from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Monday, April 14, 2025, from 10:00 am until the time of the service at 11:00 am.
