Philippi, West Virginia - Deborah Leigh Shaw, of the Meadland Community, passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2024. Debbie, as she was affectionately called, was born November 11, 1952, in Philippi, the daughter of the late Caryl Virgil and Ada Lou Ashby.

After graduating from Philip Barbour High School in 1970, Deborah went on to earn a degree from Fairmont Business College. She later began work at Fairmont General Hospital where she retired after over 30 years of service. In 1971, Deborah married her sweetheart, John Dee, and they enjoyed a life filled with family and love for over 50 years. She was an avid reader who often enjoyed listening to 60's music and the Statler brothers. She loved sitting in the sunshine on her patio, and flowers brought her much joy. But, more than anything, she enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends. She was the best mom ever and an exceptional "Mamoo" who showered her grandchildren with love and laughter.

Debbie is survived by her son Jarod Shaw (Bryn), Morgantown; two grandchildren, Charlotte Shaw and Brooks Shaw; two brothers, David Ashby (Joyce), Cross Lanes, Gary Ashby (Margaret), Summersville; nieces and nephews, Jerry Ashby (Rachael), Clarksburg, Terri Moss (Terry), Weston, Matthew Ashby, Charleston, Adrianne Ashby, Charleston, Alex Ashby, Summersville, Leigh Sisson (Mike), Canvas; and several more great-nieces and -nephews.

In addition to her parents, Deborah was preceded in death by her beloved husband John Dee Shaw and her oldest brother Mark Ashby.

Family and friends will be received at Bartlett Funeral Home in Grafton on Monday, November 4, 2024, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Pastor Orville Wright will officiate the funeral at 5 p.m. Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Philippi.
