Clyde William Davis III (Bill) Obituary

Fairmont, West Virginia - Clyde William "Bill" Davis, 86, of Fairmont, WV passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. He was born on September 20, 1939, in Mannington, WV the son of the late John William and Martha Genevieve (Tennant) Davis.


Bill graduated from East Fairmont High School and served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. He retired from Westinghouse/North American Phillips in 1997. He was a Methodist by faith and vice president and chaperone for the East Fairmont Busy Bee Band and Honeybees for 6 years. He was a Ham Radio operator, committee chairman for Troop 10 Baptist Temple and drove the bus for many scouting trips. And drove the DAV van for Veterans for several years. Bill enjoyed being outdoors whether it was being with the scouts or working in his garden. But what he loved the most was being with his family.


Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Mary Louise (McClain) Davis, his children: Catherine Louise (David) Webb, Charles William (Debbie) Davis, John Robert (Cindy) Davis, and Susan Virginia (Michael) Torries, grandchildren: Kevin William Webb (fiancé Martina Allen), Mark David Webb, Mattie Jo Davis, Kayleigh Ice Burke, Cody Warner, Dalton Warner, Evan Michael Torries, Lauren Virginia Torries and Laina Anne Torries.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Mollie Matilda "Tillie" Davis.


Family and friends can gather at Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Thursday, October 9, 2025, from 10:00 am until the time of the service at 11:30 am. Pastor Jim Zinn will be officiating and a burial at Mt. Zion Cemetery will follow with full military rites performed by the United States Army and Marion County Honor Guard.
