Amaryllis Nancy Fortney, 83, of Fairmont passed away on Sunday, March 09, 2025, at her home. She was born in Stotesbury in Raleigh County, West Virginia on June 12, 1941, the daughter of the late Roy Alfred and Alma Virginia Stump Abels.
Her parents moved to Cleveland, Ohio when she was only 8 months old and later moved to Lakewood, Ohio. In Lakewood she attended Garfield Elementary from 1946 to 1952, Emerson Jr. till 1955, and graduated from Lakewood High School in 1960. After graduation she worked several jobs at Higbee's Department Store, Manners Big Box, and General Electric. She met her husband Charles in 1965 at Detroit Ave. Methodist Church in Lakewood, Ohio.
In 1968 Nancy and her husband moved to Morgantown, then to Colfax. She worked at Hills Department Store, Sauro's Dry Cleaning, the Bonton, Hess's, Flick's Auto Repair, and as a realtor ERA Real Estate, until she retired in 2006 from the Fairmont State College Book Store.
Nancy attended OIC Business School and received her certificate in 1972 and obtained her Real Estate License in 1989.
Nancy was a homemaker, with strong family faith and values, supported by her friends, family and community. She liked to be involved in community affairs. She was a cub scout assistant, 4-H project leader, Sunday School Teacher, member of the Grafton Photo Club, Bunner Ridge Riding Club, held offices in Colfax Community Building, bowled many years in a bowling league, Ladies Aid, and a 50-year member of the Colfax CEOS Club.
She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years Charles Fortney; her son David Charles Fortney and his wife Ricarda "Ricki" of Morgantown; two sisters Gail Ann Cholensky and her husband Larry Joseph and Vicki Lynn Dreistadt; two grandchildren Mason Dominick Fortney and Mia Grace Fortney; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 brothers in infancy: 2 adult brothers Charle E. Stump and Gary Stump and one brother-in-law Ron K. Dreistadt.
Friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jason Shaffer, Pastor Mike Richards and Pastor Jim Zinn officiating.
