William's Story

William Hallah Snyder, 89, of Fairmont, formerly of St. Marys, passed away Sunday morning (March 26, 2017) at his residence surrounded by loving family members.
He was born July 1, 1927 in St. Marys, son of the late Hallah and Letha Hupp Snyder. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lucy Bailey Snyder of Fairmont; a sister, Martha Valentine of Athens, Ohio; a brother-in-law, Bill Bailey (Barbara) of St. Marys; a daughter, Connie Moore (Jamie) of Fairmont; sons, Kent Snyder (Debi) of Middlebourne, Michael Snyder (Elizabeth) of Flemington, New Jersey, Larrey Snyder of Washington, D.C., and Eric Snyder (Ann) of Elkins. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Lisa Flower (Brandon), Chris Moore (Audra), Scott Moore (Jennifer), Leslie Tihanyi (Peter), Joanna Snyder, Jessica Moore (Shannon), Ginny Davis (Josh), Elizabeth Snyder, Crystal Ramsey, Will Snyder (Brittany), Meredith Snyder and Derek Snyder; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, the late Max Snyder (Marianne) of Chillicothe, Ohio.
Bill graduated from St. Marys High School and entered the Navy in 1945 for two years. He was a pipefitter with Local 168 in Marietta, Ohio. He was best known by those with whom he worked as "Red." He loved to hunt and fish, especially with his children and grandchildren. He was proud to be a St. Marys Alumnus and always looked forward to alumni weekends with his friends. He was a member of the George Street Church of Christ and later at Waverly Church of Christ where he served as an elder. After moving to Fairmont, he attended Oakwood Road Church of Christ. He taught Bible class to the teens and adults and loved to lead singing.
Family and friends may call from 3-8 p.m. today and 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the Ingram Funeral Home 512 Second Street, St. Marys, WV. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Arnold Huyghebaert officiating. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort, P.O.
