Wilda "Sis"'s Story

Wilda "Sis" May Porter, 70, of Fairmont, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday (Aug. 2, 2017).
She passed away peacefully at Ruby Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.
Wilda was born Nov.16, 1946, a daughter of the late Kenneth Murphy and Mary (Sliger) Murphy.
Wilda worked at Marion Health Care as a counselor for AA, and volunteered for the Marion County Rescue Squad. She loved to fish, work with ceramics, and enjoyed holidays and activities with her family. She was also a member of the Bunner Ridge CEOs Club.
She is survived by her husband, Jess, who she married in 1962; as well as her three children and their spouses, Debbie and Mike King of Morgan Ridge, Bill and Corena Porter of Catawba and Robin and Donald Knotts of Fairmont; and sister, Mary and spouse, Jim Anderson of Fairmont; and 11 grandchildren, Josh Valentine and his wife LeaAnn, Jared King, Shawna and Johnna Raikes, Matthew Porter, Hope Nestor, Monica and Jeremy Markley, Jamie Porter, Tommy Knotts and his wife Katie, and Brandon Knotts.
She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren, Hunter Valentine, Joseph, Jacob, and Elysia Santos, Brian Ware, Kameron Nestor, Starr and Lilly Pheasant, Aiden Markley, Brody Porter, and Abbi Knotts, her sister-in-law, Winnie Sliger; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Wilda was preceded in death by her brother, John Sliger, as well as two other brothers in infancy.
The family would like to thank the many family and friends who have helped them, and would like to specially thank Jim and Charlotte Porter.
Friends may call from1-8 p.m. Saturday and from noon until 1 p.m. Sunday at Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Pastor Rex Musgrove officiating.
