Waneta Johnson DeBlossio, 85, of Shinnston, passed away Sunday (Oct. 16, 2016) at River Oaks Nursing Home in Clarksburg.
She was born on June 29, 1931, in Spelter, a daughter of the late Ernest and Rose Isabella Johnson.
Waneta was preceded in death by her husband, Russell DeBlossio; as well as one sister, Shirley Wilson; and one brother, Ernest "Junior" Johnson.
She is survived by two sons, Rusty DeBlossio and wife Susan of Shinnston and Jim DeBlossio and fiancée Michelle Reeves of Port Wentworth, Georgia. Also surviving are three sisters, Mary Glaspell and her husband James of Spelter, Patty Kupfner of Meadowbrook and Flo Campbell of Clarksburg; one brother, Michael Johnson and his wife Esther of Spelter; many nieces and nephews; and "adopted grandchildren," Jason, Joel, and Maggie Richardson.
Waneta was a 1949 graduate of Shinnston High School. She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church and Altar Society. She enjoyed baking and sharing her cookies and breads with the community and was known locally as "The Cookie Lady."
Friends will be received from 3-8 p.m. Thursday at the Harmer Funeral Home in Shinnston. A vigil prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Ann Catholic Church with Father Tom Dagle as celebrant. Interment will follow immediately at Shinnston Memorial Cemetery.
