Walter's Story

Walter Irvin "Sonny" Hayhurst, 77, of Farmington, passed away Friday (June 10, 2016) at his residence surrounded by his family.
He was born Sept. 22, 1938, in Colfax, a son of the late Walter and Dorothy Fisher Hayhurst.
Survivors include his children, Walter Jr. "Buck" (Sandra) Hayhurst of Waterford, Ohio, Connie (Bruce) Coleman of Kellytown, Linda Eller of Idamay, Terry (Sylvia) Hayhurst of Kellytown and Brenda (Gary) Bray of Fairmont; grandchildren, Amanda Jo (Richard) Kincell of Fairview, Katie (Dan) Bailey of Weirton, Dr. John Coleman of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Jeremy (Nicole) Coleman of Rachel and Zackery Bray of Fairmont; great-grandchildren, Madison and Brock Kincell of Fairview and Sophia Bailey of Weirton; brother, Gary Hayhurst and Cindy Mackey of Idamay; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Anna Belle Glaspell Hayhurst; a granddaughter, Jessica Marie Eller; and siblings, Louis, Joe and Karen.
Sonny was a coal miner, having retired from Consolidated Coal Co.'s Robinson Run No. 95 Mine with 33 years in the mining industry. He was also a member of the UMW.
Sonny enjoyed his cattle, farming, hunting, watching Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers ball games and watching old western movies. In his earlier years, he was a milk truck delivery man for Bunner's Dairy.
Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, June 18 at the Hutson Funeral Home in Farmington. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. in the funeral home with Larry Kincell and the Rev. Floyd Spatafore Jr. officiating.
