Walter Larry Bridges Jr., 62, of Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, passed away Wednesday (Oct. 26, 2016) at his residence.
He was born June 15, 1954, in Fairmont, son of the late Walter L. Bridges Sr. and Lucille Lucius Bridges.
Walter was an independent carpenter. He loved sports and was a big Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the flight deck crew on the USS Kitty Hawk, CV-63. Walter loved spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his former wife, Corliss Bridges; a daughter, Neshia Bridges; and a son, Cory Bridges, all of Fairmont; a grandson, Jalen Bridges of Fairmont; four brothers, David Lucius of California, John Bridges of West Virginia, Tracy Bridges of West Virginia and Anthony Bridges of St. Louis, Missouri; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by a son, William C. Bridges.
The family will receive friends from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Friday at the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church 135 Maple Ave. Fairmont. The Funeral Service will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday in the church with the Rev. William G. Moody officiating. Burial will follow at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton with full military rites being performed at graveside by the Taylor County Color Guard Unit.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made payable to Domico Funeral Home 414 Gaston Ave. Fairmont, WV.
