Viola Lucy (Johnson) McIntyre, 97, of Fairmont, passed away Thursday (Jan. 19, 2017).
She was born in and lived in Fairmont most of her life. She was born Jan. 26, 1919.
She was preceded in death by her father, Fred Knight Johnson, and her mother, Grace Eleanor "Nellie" (McElfresh) Johnson. In addition to her parents, Viola was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Harold McIntyre, in 1955.
Mrs. McIntyre retired from Westinghouse with more than 35 years of service. She graduated from East Fairmont High School in 1938 and attended Fairmont State College.
She loved to hand piece quilts, ceramics, crocheting and gardening. She was active in the travel club and the genealogy club. She volunteered at Fairmont General Hospital and at the Fairmont Soup Opera. She was a member of the Hoult United Methodist Church, serving as treasurer, and the Hoult Homemakers Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Jo Ann Moore and her husband Lawrence Moore of Fairmont; two granddaughters, Ginger Sue and her husband Dean Edward Bower, and Amy Jo and her husband C.L. Michael, all of Fairmont; two great-grandsons, Drew R. Michael and Ryan I. Bower. In addition to her parents and husband, Viola was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Jacob David Bower.

Family and friends may call from 3-8 p.m. today and 1-2 p.m. Sunday. at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Pastor Claude Kinty officiating. Interment services will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
