Victor Meryl "Mic" Gump, age 85, of Metz, died Wednesday (Aug. 24, 2016) at Tygart Center at the Fairmont Campus.
He was born Sept. 4, 1930, at Metz, a son of the late Meryl Gump and Iva Mae Gump Ice.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Edna Kay Rodgers Gump of Metz; six children, Donna and Charles Turner Sr. of Core, Janet and David Carpenter Sr. of Fairmont, Karen and James Wheeler Sr. of Metz, Kenneth Gump Sr. and companion Cindy Cross of Metz, Wilbur and Theresa Gump of Metz, and Keith Gump of Metz; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren, with one due in December; six half brothers and sisters, John Ice of Colfax, Forrest Ice of Arizona, Joe Ice of Fairmont, Barbara Ice of Fairmont, Shirley Miller and Shelby Miller, both of Chicago, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Eugene Gump who died in infancy; a brother, Robert Ice; and maternal grandparents, Lovey Pearl and Luther Gump, who raised him.
Victor worked at various jobs in his youth, then entered the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean Conflict from 1953-55. He then worked in Ohio and returned home and married Iva Mae. He retired from Joanne Mine in Rachel. After his retirement, he worked for the Senior Aide program at the Round Barn in Mannington.
Mic was a funny man. He was always giving his grandkids candy and money. Their fondest memory of their grandfather was sitting on the porch listening to his stories. He attended Campbells Run Methodist Church.
The family would like to thank Dr. Wolfe and Dr. G. Patel for the love and care over the years.
Family and friends may call from 2:30-6 p.m. Saturday at Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main St., Mannington. Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Edward Carpenter officiating. Cremation was Mic's choice of final disposition.
