Vera Jean Scritchfield, 83, of Fairmont, passed away on Tuesday (July 25, 2017).
She was born in Fairmont, on Dec. 4, 1933, the last survivor of the children born to the late Gay Davis and Nettie (Jackson) Davis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David L. Scritchfield.
Vera was a member of the Salvation Army Church and volunteered as a cook. She had also worked as a nurse's aide at Pleasant Acres Christian Haven Nursing Home in Fairmont. She most recently enjoyed watching wrestling and "Jeopardy" on television.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Mary Ann and Robert Scritchfield of Fairmont, with whom she made her home, and Linda Corley of Fairmont.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Guy Davis Jr., Harry Davis, Fred Davis and Arlie Davis; her sisters, Lula Black, Grace Day and Martha Wroe; two infant sisters and an infant brother.
Mrs. Scritchfield's family would like to thank Amedysis Hospice and Cortnie McKnight for their wonderful care of Vera during her illness. In keeping with her wishes, cremation services will be provided by Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home.
