Sister Genevieve's Story
Sister Genevieve Mary Jurick, formerly Sister Assumpta, of the School Sisters of St. Francis United States Province, in her 76th year of religious profession, died Sunday (Feb. 26, 2017) at Marian Hall Home in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was 95.
Sister entered from Holy Rosary Parish in Clarksburg in 1938 and professed first vows in 1940 at Mount Assisi Convent in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She earned a bachelor's degree in English from Carlow College and a master's degree in guidance and counseling from Duquesne University, both in Pittsburgh. Sister taught at various elementary schools in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts and at Monongahela Valley Catholic in Charleroi, Pennsylvania.; tutored at Mount Assisi Academy in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.; and was a guidance counselor at Notre Dame High School in Clarksburg.
Sister ministered at Benedictine Adult Day Care in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and at Marian Hall Home. She spent the last 11 years in prayer ministry.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Joseph and Mary (Krisak) Jurick; brothers, Joseph, Jay and John; and sisters, Regina Ann and Mary Louise. She is survived by her religious community; her sister, Bernadette Marie Jurick of Fairmont; brother, Andrew Jurick of Berkeley Springs; sister-in-law, Margaret Chesapeake, Virginia; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
Viewing will be from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Assisi Convent in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mount Assisi Convent. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery. Arrangements by L.T. Miller Funeral Home in Bellevue, Pennsylvania.
