Simon A. Tennant, 91, of Fairmont, Meadowdale Community, passed away Sunday (Feb. 12, 2017) at the West Virginia Veterans Nursing Home in Clarksburg.
He was born at Wadestown on Feb. 10, 1926, son of the late Harley G. Tennant and Edith (Yost) Tennant.
Simon was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in WWII.
He worked 39 years at the aluminum plant on Speedway for Fairmont Aluminum Co., Cerro Aluminum Co. and retired from Alcan Aluminum Corp. in 1989. He was a member of USWA Local No. 1. He was an active member of H&H Chapel United Methodist Church in Meadowdale.
He volunteered for over 25 years at the Fairmont Marion County Food Pantry. He enjoyed working on his farm and garden. He also enjoyed going to the East Side McDonalds to visit with his friends. He attended many of the Alcan retiree functions.
In addition to his parents, Simon was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 66 years, Marjorie Pride Tennant; his sisters, Violet, Veda and Virginia in infancy and a brother, Donald Ross Tennant.
He is survived by his son, Mark and his wife Diane of Fairmont; a brother, William and his wife Helen of Barrackville; a sister-in-law, Doris Carpenter of Fairmont; step-grandchildren, Tammy Ashby and her husband Greg of Thomas, Christopher Watson of Cumberland, Maryland, and Amanda Watson of Norfolk, Virginia; step-great-grandchildren, Julian Watson, Zach Ends and his wife Destinee, Brittan Ends and his wife Amanda, Nick Ends, Lalah Ends, Xzandra Ashby and Travis Ashby; and many beloved nieces and nephews along with his precious cat, Cali.
Friends and family may call from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Tom Shepherd officiating.
Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens with Full Military Honors provided by the Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard.
