Shirley Jane Smock, 80, of Fairmont, passed away on Friday (Aug. 18, 2017) at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
She was born on Jan. 17, 1937, in Glover Gap, a daughter of the late Howard Kerns and Gladys (Satterfield) Kerns.
Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She most enjoyed spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren. In her younger years, she and her husband were active in square dancing and ballroom dancing. She was an avid Goodwill shopper.
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, James "Jim" Smock; her son, James Jeffrey Smock of Fairmont; two daughters, Sharlene Osburn and her husband Gary of Fairmont and Brenda Vandergrift and her husband Randy "Noodle"; her grandchildren, Aaron Potoczny and his wife Nicole, Justin Potoczny and his wife Jen, Nina Cowger and her husband Scott and Kameryn Smock; and her great-grandchildren, Austin Cowger, Brayden Cowger, Sadie Cowger, Anna Potoczny and Austin Potoczny.
She is also survived by two brothers, James Kerns and Jennings Kerns both of Fairmont, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Sonny Vandergrift, and two brothers, Steen Kerns and Glen Kerns.
Family and friends may call from noon-7 p.m. Sunday and from 10-11 a.m. Monday at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Larry Buckland officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.
