Shirley Ann Shears Avey, 79, of Rivesville, died Monday (Nov. 14 2016) at Fairmont Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Baltimore, Maryland, July 14, 1937, the daughter of Charles Oliver Shears and Naomi Grace Phillips Shears.
She is survived by her husband, Brady Arlington Avey of Rivesville. She is survived by four daughters, Karen Cone of Florida, Glenda Griffin of Hurlock, Maryland, Cynthia Lafferty and her husband Richard Lafferty of Nutter Fort, and Sharon Bender of Arnettsville; two sons, Dwayne Wilson and Brian Bender both of Baltimore, Maryland; a brother, Ronald James Shears of Baltimore, Maryland; 20 grandchildren, including Tara Ann Perri and her husband John Perri Jr. of Bridgeport, Eric James Royal and his wife Tammy Royal of Monongah, and Kayla Marie Bender of Fairmont; and many great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Avey was preceded in death by a daughter, Naomi Grace Radcliffe. and a brother, Charles Wallace Shears.
Mrs. Avey was a retired operator from the C&P Telephone Co. and was also a former truck driver with her husband for the Buffalo Express Co. She was a graduate of Patterson High School in Baltimore, Maryland.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, WV 26554, to assist with funeral expenses.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. today. The committal service will follow in the Arnettsville Cemetery in Monongalia County.
