Shannon George Harris, 68, of Fairmont, passed away Monday (July 4, 2016) at Fairmont Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Monongalia County, on Feb. 19, 1948, a son of the late Hayward Tunnie Harris and Audrey Malone Harris.
He is survived by his wife, Kimberly (Haller) Harris; his sons, Shannon George Harris II, Jason Harris, Ronald Harris, Brian Michowka, Shannon George Harris III, James Leroy Harris and Benjamin Ian Harris; a daughter, Tamatha (Harris) Mendiola; his grandchildren, Gabe, Gavin, Kristy, Mary Jo, Jose "Junior," Robyn, Millie, Keri and Evie; and his three great-grandchildren, Mylee, Sophie and Madalyn. In addition, he is survived by a brother and three sisters, David, Diane, Brenda and Sue.
Shannon served in the U.S. Army as a helicopter mechanic. He was stationed in Alabama, Washington, Virginia and Germany.
As a civilian, he worked as a truck driver and construction worker and served with several rescue squads in the area. Shannon really enjoyed flying and fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Buddy and Larry; and three sisters, Margarite, Shirley and Royana.
Friends and family may call from 9-11 a.m. Friday at Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the West Virginia National Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the funeral home to assist with funeral expenses.
