Ruth Joann Yow, 84, of the Winfield Community, Fairmont, passed away on Monday (March 13, 2017) at home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Marion County on Feb. 24, 1933, a daughter of the late Paul O. and Willa Blanche (Purkey) Moran.
Ruth, a former employee of Owens-Illinois, loved to crochet, make quilts and tend to her flower garden. She enjoyed telling jokes and making people laugh. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
Ruth is survived by her three sons, Robert Yow and his wife, Yvonne, Mark Yow and his wife, Kim, and Walter Yow, all of Fairmont; her daughter, Pam Henderson of Morgantown; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Also surviving are her five brothers, Paul J. Moran of Colfax, Benny L. Moran and his wife, Laura of Morgantown, Roy E. Moran and his wife, Christa of Greenville, South Carolina, Allen Lee Moran of Fairmont, and John Wayne Moran and his wife, Susan of Fairmont; her five sisters, Esther Pearl Reinhardt of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Eleanor Sue Kinsey, Ellen Lucille Stevens and her husband, Robert, Ethel May Elsey and her husband Kenneth, and Etta Gay Urgo, all of Fairmont; and close friends, Connie Pettit, Shirley Cole and Melba Lough.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was also preceded in death by her husband, Marion E. Yow; two daughters, Joyce Yow and Janet Martin; a special son-in-law, Orval Henderson; two brothers-in-law, Tom Reinhardt and Jim Kinsey; a sister-in-law, Avolene Moran; and a very close friend of many years, Chuck Yates.
Family and friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Friday at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Nathan Barker officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
