Ruth E. Jay, 88, of Fairmont, formerly of Fredericktown, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Friday (July 1, 2016) at the home of her daughter, Kathryn, with whom she resided.
She was born Feb. 4, 1928, in Millsboro, Pennsylvania, and lived in the Fredericktown, Pennsylvania, area until three years ago when she moved to Fairmont.
Mrs. Jay attended East Bethlehem Schools. She had been employed for more than 15 years at the former Italian Maid Bakery, West Brownsville, Pennsylvania, and retired when it closed.
Ruth was married to Gilbert E. King, who died December 1960. To this union were born seven children. Following her husband's death, she wed Harvey Jay, and together they had three children.
She was a member of Calvary Chapel Church, Fredericktown, Pennsylvania.
Surviving are the following children, Ruth Ann Wolfe, Harry D. King, Charles L. (Vera) King, Elma M. (Gary) Adams, Kathryn L. Stewart, Harvey (Cindy) Jay, Richard (Melissa) Jay, and Barbara A. White. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Jay was predeceased by her mother and stepfather, Mabel and Lindsey Price; brother, Roger Smith; daughter, Edna King Gallo; son, Roger King; and grandson, Shawn Jay.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Frank Burkus Funeral Home, 26 Mill St., Millsboro, Pennsylvania, where services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, with Pastor John Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in Beallsville Cemetery.
