Ronald Keith Caldwell, 70, of Fairmont, passed away Wednesday (Sept. 21, 2016) at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
He was born Feb. 17, 1946, in Mount Hope, son of the late James and Mary Margaret (Parker) Caldwell.
He is survived by his wife, Irene (Holcomb) Caldwell; two daughters, Stephanie Mezzapelle and husband Michael of Fairmont, and Mary Jane Caldwell and fiancé Jeff Shaw of Fairview; one granddaughter, Calista Mezzapelle of Fairmont; two brothers, James Caldwell and wife Katherine Susanna "Cookie" of Naples, Florida, David Caldwell and wife Rebecca "Jeannie" of The Villages, Florida; brothers-in-law, Ron Smith, Robert Holcomb, Leon Holcomb, Asa Holcomb, Donald Holcomb and wife Gladie, and Randall Holcomb; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Deloris "Dee" Smith; and a brother-in-law, Harold Holcomb.
Ron was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in the Vietnam War. He was a machine door gunner on a helicopter with the Purple Fox Unit. He was the former owner and operator of Caldwell and Parks Inc. and previous employee of Precision Machine and Hydraulics.
Ron was a member of the First Baptist Church on Fairmont Avenue. He loved and cherished his daughters, granddaughter and his little dog "Girlie." He was an avid hunter, fisherman and carpenter, enjoyed playing Sudoku, and enjoyed his weekly visits with the Vietnam Support Group at the Veteran's Center in Morgantown. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends at their morning coffee club.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave. in Fairmont. The body will lie in state from 10-11 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church on Fairmont Avenue. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, in the church with the Rev. Valerie Gittings officiating. Interment will follow at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton with full military rites being performed at graveside by the Taylor County Color Guard Unit.
