Roberta Lough
Roberta Joan Burnside Lough, 86, of Kincheloe Road, Jane Lew, passed away peacefully at 10:42 p.m. Wednesday (June 7, 2017) in the comfort of her daughter's home, with loving family by her side.
They extend their deepest gratitude and appreciation to West Virginia Hospice for their support and compassionate care, as Joan slipped into the twilight as a result of Alzheimer's.
She was born in Kincheloe, on July 5, 1930, a daughter of the late Ernest Robert Burnside and Lela Grace Halterman Burnside.
On Feb. 2, 1948, she married Francis Junior Lough, and they celebrated 68 years of marriage before his passing on Dec. 24, 2016. They spent each morning reading daily devotionals together and looked forward to this special time together.
Her witty, loving spirit will be carried on by her seven children, Cathy Donnellan of Jane Lew, Sheri Jacobs and husband Dave of Jane Lew, David Lough and wife Florence of Clarksburg, Robin Everitt and husband Bill of Jane Lew, Brian Lough and wife Dianne of Jane Lew, Kevin Lough and wife Mary of Fairmont, and Steven Lough and wife Carla of Fairmont; 11 grandchildren, Joy Dean, Jamie and Chad Jacobs, Chuck and Joe Lough, Amanda Barclay and Autumn Miller, Shasta Lough, Jacob and Caleb Lough, and Kayla Lough; 21 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat, Precious, who was always by her side.
In addition to her parents and husband, she will be reunited in heaven with her siblings, Robert Gene Burnside, Ernest Ray Burnside and Ruth Gregory.
Joan worked as an administrative clerk at the United Hospital Center for 11 years. With a smile and wit that lit up a room, she especially enjoyed the sing-a-longs at family gatherings, and writing poetry, with her favorite being, "Day & Life of a Dutiful Wife." She was a fabulous cook and everyone will miss her giant cookies and homemade rolls.
Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she treasured every moment spent rocking them to sleep. Joan lived a life built upon a strong foundation of faith and devotion, and she was a member of the Church of Christ in Clarksburg.
Friends and family will gather from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service at 144 Hackers Creek Road in Jane Lew. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday from the Pat Boyle Funeral Home Chapel with Evangelist Perry Henegar and Evangelist Darrell Henderson officiating. Interment will follow in the West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1299 Pineview Drive, Morgantown, WV 26505, or visit act.alz.org/donate.
The Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service is honored and privileged to serve the family of Roberta Joan Lough. Online condolences may be expressed at www.patboylefuneralhome.com.
