Robert "Bob" Mason Ptomey, 92, of Daytona Beach, Florida, and formerly of Fairmont, passed away April 30, 2016, with his family by his side.
He was born April 8, 1924, in Adrian, to the late Michael B. and Myrtle Ptomey.
Bob was raised in Fairmont and married the love of his life, Helen Ribel, while stationed at Camp Shelby, Mississippi. They recently celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary.
While serving in the Army during World War II, Bob was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in action in France. After the war he earned his bachelor's degree in business administration.
Mr. Ptomey began his career at Fairmont General Hospital in 1954. In 1988, after 34 years, he retired from FGH as administrator and CEO. He and Helen then retired to Indigo Lakes Golf and Country Club in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Bob was an avid golfer and bowler and enjoyed golfing at the Fairmont Field Club, Green Hills Country Club and Indigo Lakes Golf and Country Club in Daytona Beach, Florida.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Michael Ptomey and his wife Carol of Cranston, Rhode Island, and Richard Ptomey of Daytona Beach, Florida; his daughter, Rebecca Shafer and husband David of Roswell, Georgia; his sister, Virginia Sewell of Columbus, Georgia; and a sister-in-law, Dottie Ptomey of Cape Coral, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Mike Jr.
