Robert "Bob" Eugene Payton, 65, of Fairmont, went to be with the Lord on Sunday (Aug. 27, 2017) at his home.
He was born in Gassaway on Sept. 4, 1951, a son of the late Clarence and Betty (Owens) Payton.
He retired from the Monongahela Power Company after 32 years of service as an electrician. Following his retirement, he worked at the First Presbyterian Church in Fairmont in the maintenance department.
He was very active with the Marion County 4-H. He also enjoyed collecting records.
Bob was affectionally known as the greatest UMMIE by his grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his wife LeeAnn Payton; his son, Aaron Payton and his wife Jayme; his daughter, Jayme Dodd and her husband Chevee; and his daughter-in-law, Beverlee Payton. Also surviving are two brothers and their spouses, Larry and Linda Payton and Michael and Cindy Payton; his sister-in-law, Carolyn Payton; and grandchildren, Gage Payton, Lance Payton, Aleena Dodd and Keighley Dodd.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a son, Robert Todd Payton, as well as by a brother, Clarence Payton and his Father-in-law and Mother-in-law, John and Helen Metz.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Marion County 4-H, 314 Monroe Street, Fairmont, WV 26554.
Friends and family may call from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday and 10-11 a.m. Thursday at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Seth Broadhurst and Pastor Elise Neal officiating. Interment will follow at the IOOF Cemetery in Farmington.
