Robert Eugene Nickolich, 86, of Fairmont passed away on Sunday (May 15, 2016) at Fairmont Regional Medical Center.
He was born on Aug. 7, 1929, in Fairmont, a son of the late Mitchel K. and Virginia Linger Nickolich.
Bob proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired from the Owens-Illinois glass plant in Fairmont. Following his retirement from Owens, he and his wife started an upholstery and woodworking business working for Grants, Sears and Alasky's repairing furniture. Bob was an avid gardener. He enjoyed sharing his vegetables with friends and neighbors.
Bob and Mary Jo were members of the Everlasting Covenant Church. He was also a Life member of the VFW 7048.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Mary Jo (Reese) Nickolich; a daughter, Kathy Nickolich Fox and her husband Mike Fox of Scottville, Virginia; a son Craig Nickolich and his wife Jeannette Ramsey Nickolich of Fairmont; five special grandchildren, Michael Nickolich, Steven Nickolich, Scott Nickolich and his wife Alisha, Summer Fox Millway and her husband Tommy and Skyler Fox Puffenbarger and her husband Brad; and six great grandchildren, Demi Nickolich, Luca Nickolich, Eli Nickolich, Colton Millway, Wyatt Millway and Avery Millway.
He is also survived by a brother, David Nickolich and his wife, Mary of North Carolina and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Nickolich and Franz Nickolich and two sisters, Stella Ocheltree and Nancy Collins.
Friends and family may call from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday and 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont. The funeral service will be at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Josh Morgan officiating. Interment will follow at the West Virginia National Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard.
