Richard's Story

Richard Monroe Knotts, 86, of Farmington, passed away Wednesday (May 17, 2017) at Mon General Hospital in Morgantown.
He was born Dec. 11, 1930, in Grafton, a son of the late Archie Monroe Knotts and Virginia Pauline Sines.
Richard was employed as a coal miner for Bethlehem Energy in Barrackville, having retired after 30 years of service. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He was a member of the UMWA, VFW Post 629 in Fairmont, an avid hunter and fisherman and a fan of West Virginia University Mountaineer sports, the Dallas Cowboys and the Boston Red Sox. He also enjoyed fast-pitch softball, having pitched for R&W Cable for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Linda L. Knotts; two daughters, Sally Darlene (Brian) Bates of Fairmont, Tara ((Mark) Gerkens of Grafton; one sister, June Currey of Michigan; two brothers-in-law, Fred Long of Farmington and Richard Long of Worthington; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son: Richard Joseph Knotts, and a granddaughter: Jamie Lee Lane.
Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Saturday at the Hutson Funeral Home in Farmington. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard's memory to the ASPCA, www.aspca.org/donate.
