Richard Clay Helm, 76, of Fairmont, passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at his home. He was born in Marion County on July 12, 1940 a son of the late Henry Clay Helm, Jr. and Violet (West) Huber.
Richard graduated from East Fairmont High School and Allied Institute of Technology of Chicago. He retired from the Westinghouse/North American Philips plant in Fairmont where he was employed as a 1st class machinist for 38 years.
He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. He was a member of the Airflow Club of America. His many interest included, antiques, antique cars and deer hunting. He most enjoyed working on his farm.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Gloria Lawson Helm; two sons, Ted Clay Helm and his wife Tosh of North Carolina and Lincoln Helm and his wife Jennifer of Fairmont; two daughters, Constance Connie Scotchel and her husband Joe of Westover and Christine McDaniel and her husband Gary of Louisiana; eleven grandchildren, Teressa Scotchel, Alex Helm, Tammy Helm, Michelle Helm, Tyler Helm, Caleb Helm, Evan Helm, Kuper Helm, Brody McDaniel, Holly McDaniel and Ian McDaniel and two great grandchildren, Layla Turner and Emiyah Glover.
Also surviving are two sisters, Nancy Long and her husband Jim and Judy Gipson and her husband Randy all of Ohio; a step brother, Chuck Hawkinberry of Ohio and a step sister, Mary Hawkinberry of West Virginia.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Angela Scotchel and a sister-in-law, Laura Hawkinberry.
The family will receive friends at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont on Friday from 2pm to 8pm and on Saturday 10am to 11am. The funeral service will be at 11am on Saturday, January 14, 2017 with Pastor Glenn Stevenson officiating. Interment services will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover.
