Ralph N. Steele, 89, of Bridgeport, passed away Wednesday (Nov. 23, 2016) at Nellas Nursing Home in Elkins.
He was the son of Lonnie and Lois Arbogast Steele.
Ralph was a well known business man in the area, owning Food Center in Fairmont, Farmer Brown and Food Land in White Hall. He has held several state jobs; he was a business manager at Weston State Hospital under Gov. Cecil Underwood, Commissioner of Motor Vehicles and of the Alcohol Beverage Commission under Gov. Arch Moore.
He is survived by his wife, Mary J. Steele of Bridgeport; a son, Larry Steele and wife Gayle of Liberty Township, Ohio; a daughter, Cynthia Childs and husband Andrew of Rochester, New York; six grandchildren, John T. Ward and wife Michelle, Elizabeth Ward and husband Joseph Bottenhorn, Sarah Ward and husband Andrew Dwyer, Mark Steele, Zoe Childs, and Sharon Lawson; seven great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Nancy Helmick; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Steele Ward; four brothers, Howard, Glen, Raymond and Earl Steele; and a sister, Helen Hoy.
Domico Funeral Home, Fairmont, is in charge of his cremation, with a memorial service being held at a later date.
