Patty Sue Mason, 71, of Fairmont, passed away Thursday (March 16, 2017) at John Manchin Health Care Center.
She was born in Marion County on Oct. 5, 1945 a daughter of the late Earl West and Clara Moats West.
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Greg Mason.
Patty had worked at Marion Health Care as a nurse's aide and as a correctional officer at the Marion County Sheriff's Department. Her many interests included, reading, crocheting, shopping and spending time with her family.
In addition to her husband, Patty is survived by her son, Raymond Friend, Jr. and his wife Paula of Fairmont; her granddaughters, Amy Merrill and her husband Dustin and Sara Martin and her husband Jared all of Fairmont; her sister, Wilma Rote and her husband, John of The Colony, Texas; her brother, Robert West, Sr. of Fairmont; two sisters-in-law, Christine West and Emma West; and several nieces and nephews who she loved very much.
In addition to her parents, Patty was preceded in death by her daughter, Kelly Rose Friend; two sisters, Thelma West Wyer, Helen West Canfield; two brothers, Lawrence West and Paul Richard West; brothers-in-law, Amos Wyer and Hanning "Burt" Canfield; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Colleen "Cody" West; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Hugh and Sue Mason.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at the John Manchin, Sr. Health Care Center for loving Patty and for the exceptional care she received.

Family and friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Sunday and from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home 209 Merchant Street. The funeral service will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Larry Buckland officiating. Interment will follow at West Virginia National Cemetery.
